HUBBY'S GIFT :)

Last saturday, hubby and i had a big big fight which brought us both to tears. A day has passed without talking nor messaging each other.

When we met last monday, he hugged me so tight and whispered to me ear "I'm sorry, it won't happen again" I just hugged him back. It felt like were doing a major PDA amidst greenbelt 3!

We had a good day updating each other of what happened on our sunday, since we were in a no-pansinan mode.

I was surprised when he said, "Bilhan kita make- up. Peace offering. Ano gusto mo?"

Well, that sounded music to my ears and it brought a smile to my face. I instantly said "Suesh!"

I missed my Suesh brushes and I was in a bit of regret when I let go of my first ever brush set. So an opportunity came and instead of buying some Style Warrior stuff, I decided to buy a 16 pc. brush set.

He gave me the moolah, and I went to BDO to deposit yesterday to Sheryll Ong's account (Suesh owner or manager or something) And she immediately shipped the item yesterday and it arrived in my house at around 11 a.m. :) As usual, my packages always get me excited so I ripped this open before taking a pic. :)

Wow, they already have their signature plastic bag. :)

Ooooh.... my new baby!

There was nothing new except for the logo of Suesh on the "tounge" of the brush holder and the protective brush cap on the eyebrow grooming brush. I'll have to check this again if there were any changes in the brushes. But before that, I have to rush to school because this new baby is slowing me down! :)

Don't you just looove being in love? :)

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: KRYOLAN TRANSLUCENT LOOSE POWDER IN TL4

Here's my initial review on KRYOLAN TRANSLUCENT LOOSE POWDER IN TL4.

THE VERDICT:

This big jar costed me 1150php. It comes in 5 translucent shades. What do you mean when you say a powder is translucent? It's a powder that literally goes on as nothing when applied. It just sets the foundation. It's more convenient because translucent powders can be used for any shade of foundation. It doesn't matter if your powders are white, brown or yellow. Translucent powders don't affect the color of your foundation at all (of course, you have to blend the powder correctly) TL4 is a yellow toned powder that helps make colors more vibrant. It's important for all the contours and the colors to show on stage to add dimensions and of course, life to your face through colors.

SWATCH OF THE TL4

It just pays off as a sheer powder! Did I mention that the staying power of this powder is fantastic? It keeps my make- up from running during shows! :)

It comes in a plastic jar, which can break easily if you keep on dropping it or putting it carelessly anywhere and in your bag. The powder has a cornstarch- like texture, which is good for me because it dusts off easily and is not as pigmented unlike talc- based powders. So I think the cornstarch- like texture is the secret behind translucent powders, that's why it goes off as sheer. When applied on foundation, blend this powder well and you'll see that your foundation is set, mattified, and without a single trace of change in the shade at all.  It also comes in a smaller jar (which is unavailable yet in the P.I.). A little goes a long way when it comes to Kryolan products so I'm expecting this big jar to last me a long long time.

Luella's Lucky Londoners

For those within a wedge-heeled walk of Bond Street, don't miss this Thursday's Luella sample sale. With 60-90% off current and vintage lined on catwalk, ready-to-wear and accessories, it is what it is - a steal. If you fail to turn up, consider it a crime against fashion. Talk about getting things handed to you. Jeez! (cue: grumbles bitterly to herself all the while claiming she never liked that lovely Luella anyway!)

Luella sample sale: Thurs, July 2nd. Click on image for deets!

The Cellulite Challenge - parts 9 & 10

Only two days left of me Meditech dimple destruction and the world will be safe for democracy. We had a little 'plateau' issue due to some water retention; but with that behind us and only two sessions left, the shedding should continue. Despite my body's uncanny ability to make like a sponge, my skin has never been smoother. Did I mention I lost some junk in the 'aul trunk? And the permanently flat tummy? Could this be a religious experience? I'm beginning to think so.

Turtlehead Tees

Slogan tees - a divisive fashion point at best. 'RELAX' like Frankie and you're an ironice hipster; emblazon 'Northsiders do it better' on your chest and you're a life-size prat. Luckily, Turtlehead.ie - a Dublin-based t-shirt/art collective - has come up with snazzier tag lines to save you from impending social suicide. 'I Hate Bread' is angsty yet coeliac-friendly; while 'Old is the New New' could score you serious post-modernist points. 'Same Circus...Different Clowns' is my personal fave. I wonder if that's what Britney says after each tour date?

Indigo & Cloth

Sales can be a bit cut throat - 50% reduced here; 70% slashed there. Throw in that Harvey Norman eegit shouting at us to 'GO! GO!' and it all gets a bit out of hand. Luckily the good folk at Indigo & Cloth have bucked the trend and taken pause with a bit of quid pro quo. Allow me to interpret the signage - "Here's the deal. You buy something special and we buy you something special back." A bit like how you struck with your elementary school BFF. i.e. simpler times. Nice.

BEAUTY BATTLES: MY COLLECTION OF VOLUMIZING MASCARAS

For this edition of the Beauty Battles, let's look at Volumizing mascaras.

Here's my collection of volumizing mascaras. It's the treatment that i need the most for my lashes since I have long but sparse lashes on the upper and lower lash line. Volumizing mascaras always does the trick for me in faking my twiggy- like lashes. :)

L- R: Maybelline's Great Lash Mascara, Maybelline Volum Express mascara, Avon Supershock Mascara, Chanel Inmitable Waterproof Mascara

I have tried Lancome, Clinique, Maybelline, Estee Lauder, The Face Shop, Chanel, Skinfood, Dior, Clarins, L'oreal, Nichido, Ever Bilena, Bobbi Brown, Max Factor, Cover Girl and Rimmel mascaras since I'm a mascara eater. It's a staple in my make- up stash. So far, Lancome will always have a soft spot in my heart. But I had to let go of lemming for definicils, flextencils and virtuose because they're too expensive. I found my new volumizing mascara in Maybelline's Colossal Mascara but unfortunately, it's unavailable in the Philippines. I hope they bring it here!

So here's a comparison of the four mascaras. I didn't change their positions so refer to the first pic for the brands.

MAYBELLINE GREAT LASH
- Paris Hilton swears by this brand and it has been consistently the number 1 mascara in numerous magazine and beauty awards. Great Lash swears to improve your lashes' volume up to 70%. And when it says it's waterproof, it really means it. The wand is in a spiral form, and rolling it over your lashes is the right way to use this so you'll effectively make use of the form of the bristles. The formula is so good, even if the bristles are not. It's what makes this formula a winner. Maybelline has produced some of the greatest mascaras in the market and this baby is a classic! Unfortunately, it is unavailable in the Philippines. I got this from a direct seller and I purchased mine for 180php only. Before, it's available locally and was sold for around 400php+. Make sure you ask your relatives abroad to haul you at least two tubes because hauling a lot might not seem like a great idea because you have to dispose the tube after 3 mos.

MAYBELLINE VOLUM EXPRESS MASCARA
- Another favorite of mine when Great Lash was pulled out from the country. The brush hair was thick and the form of the wand is curved, to help create curls and for the semi- U part to specifically catch your lashes when you apply it on. The case is also similar to Maybelline's Colossal mascara. This baby gives you good volume as well. This mascara is washable so expect to see some smudges after some time when you're wearing it.

AVON SUPERSHOCK MASCARA
-This promises to boost your lashes' volume up to 120%. It was so promising in the brochure so I grabbed one. It really shocked me because of the huge wand with plastic bristles that are aligned in a line. The tube is bigger than the normal mascara tubes and is fat, so I have high hopes and expectations from this mascara since the tube and the wand are BIG, it's like an in-your-face "I'm the best volumizing mascara there is." Surprisingly, the formula didn't shock me at all. In fact, Avon's Astonishing Lengths mascara gives much better volume than this one. This also has a tendency to clump when you apply too much. So maybe that's the "shock" in this product. SHOCKINGLY CLUMPY LASHES. :D But don't worry, just use a lash separator to remedy the clumps. But if you have thick lashes, this would do you good. It'll enhance your already thick lashes. Worth trying, but not worth repurchasing.

CHANEL INMITABLE MASCARA WATERPROOF
- Chanel claims that this mascara is precisely made and engineered to give tons of volume to your lashes. The wand is well- engineered: Bristles are strategically aligned and positioned so as to catch every single lash. The formula is made of good wax that glides on easily, clump- free and dries off to a natural finish. The result, natural looking thick lashes. And these characteristics are priced at a whopping 1750php. Well, it does give you your money's worth, at least. Your lashes are volumized up to 80% and it lasts all day, without smudging. The only con of this product is, the formula dries fast in the tube. And when you use it everyday, chances are, you might empty the tube in a month. So there goes your 1750php. I suggest you try Lancome, which is cheaper and has good quality as well.

I hope this helped you guys. :)

MY ATTEMPT ON A POLLOCK- STYLE ARTWORK :)

Hi girls! I'd like to share this piece of artwork that I made last night. It was for a project in my MATH1 class and I was assigned to the the base for the magic squares.

I am such a fan of Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein and everything pop art so I decided to Pollock-ize the base. Jackson Pollock propagated the paint splatter effect on the canvass years ago. It was so unique, this style always entails his name, "Let's do it, Pollock Style". :)

You think it's easy at first, all you'll need are paint brushes and you go splattering on some paint. You have to put texture by trying to build or cake some paint on some parts or else, your work will look flat. And of course, intention is the best way to create an artwork. I had "happiness" in mind when I was doing this so I think it showed on my work. :)

It's hard as well because you have to clean the stuff with paint splatters. Or else, my mom will kill me for splattering paint on her antique cabinet. Haha.

Check out the texture. It paid- off as a thick gunk of paint on the canvass because I just used plain paint without water. I dipped the flat brush, made sure there were lots of paint on it, and splattered it on the canvass. Talk about paint waste. :)

Here is the part where I mixed water with paint and it created a watercolor effect

I wish I could bring this home. But my group mates will put magic squares on it when I bring it on Wednesday. Too bad. They might cover up the whole design. Haha. Oh well, I'll just make one again. ;)

PRODUCT REVIEW: MAKE UP FOR EVER LACQUERED LIPSTICK

I'd like to review my only MUFE lipstick. It's in the lacquered variant and the color is 203 (orange fluo pink)

I bought this a year ago from the MUFE boutique in The Fort High Street. This costed me 1150php and I don't see it already in the lipstick counter of MUFE in TFHS.

Btw, MUFE's lipstick line ranges from sheer, to fantasy colored lippies to the glossy ones and to the lacquered (semi- matte) variants.

When I spotted this, they also had the last piece left so I immediately bought it because I'm a sucker for neon brights especially pink (who doesn't love pink anyway?)

THE VERDICT:

It's a bright pink lipstick with an orange undertone. Why is it called lacquered? This line of lipsticks by MUFE has uber pigmented colors that pays off exactly as it is on the tube. When I say bright, it's BRIGHT. It instantly gives your face a neon pink bulb. This also perfect to wear alone with a clean make- up while sporting a white dress.

It's uber pigmented and it smells like an expensive perfume. If my "scent memory" serves me right, the smell of this is similar to Dior's lipsticks. The staying power of this baby is tough, and when you wipe it off your lips, the color still lingers, giving you a "just bitten" pink lips.

'

It's very expensive, I know. That's why I'm trying to control myself from using this lipstick because I'm afraid the color was pulled out already in the P.I. (I'll  have to check Shangri- La for this when I empty this tube) so I might not find this color here.

It's not something that you should collect because MAC proves to be a better alternative. I might try another color from MUFE. But as far as I'm concerned, this is something that I'd definitely repurchase from MUFE.

PRODUCT REVIEW: SALLY HANSEN AIRBRUSH LEGS

I'm no leg make- up wearer but for the benefit of those who would want to wear it, here's my initial review on SALLY HANSEN'S AIRBRUSH LEGS IN MEDIUM. It costed me around 995php

I bought this two years ago because I had to model some swimsuits for a friend in a fashion show. I had some nasty stretch marks on the butt area so I turned to this product for help.

THE VERDICT:

It's like foundation when you spray it on your legs. Medium is like an NC42 when you compare it to the shades of MAC. It glides on and blends easily and it promises to cover unwanted scars and marks so you'll be able to bare your legs through shorts and mini skirts.

This baby is almost waterproof because it really sticks to your skin throughout the day and is easily removed by soap and water. I have a friend who uses this because she has nasty shave burns on her legs so everytime she'll wear mini skirts and shorts, she would put this on her legs. And I could attest that it really lasts without running and caking!

SKIN W/O SALLY HANSEN: CHECK OUT MY SCAR. I GOT IT WHEN I WAS 7 YEARS OLD. IT WAS SUCH A DEEP CUT SO IT LEFT A PERMANENT SCAR ON MY KNEE. :)

WITH SALLY HANSEN: DARKNESS WAS CONCEALED AND THE SCAR IS ALMOST GONE

It's expensive, but it's worth it. Some models shared this can with me and surprisingly, I still have some left. If you find this too expensive, try the Airbrush Stocking which is at 600+php (?). But for the quality, it's worth your 900php. At least it's cheaper than MAC. :)

DO YOU WANNA KNOW MY HG FOR EYELINERS?

This is my HG for eyebrow pencils.

I tried MAC, Bobbi Brown and Chanel but i would always go back to Ever Bilena. I'm not saying that this baby outshines these expensive brands, it's just that it's almost at par with these brands. Of course, the branded ones have good quality but I find it crazy when I try to spend too much for an eyebrow pencil.

Ever Bilena's e/l pencils have good pigment pay- off. It glides on easily, and it's buildable, baby. I've proven how good the quality of these pencils are when it has stayed during the time when I sweat profusely or how it forever withstands my oil slick face. It's cheap and long lasting. This is the product that I don't have to retouch during the day.

See how uber pigmented these babies are? :) (top: brown; bottom: black)

Times are getting hard and if you're planning to degrade some products, make it your eyebrow pencils. Choose Ever Bilena. :)

What are your HG brands for Eyeliner pencils?

Car Boot Sale @ The Shaw

Me and my bargain-hunting. As if I needed a reason to go shopping, now I can defend it with the excuse that I got at a car boot sale. Yes indeedy, the George Bernard Shaw Toe Jam flog fest descended yet again on Dublin for a sunsoaked day of fashion, falafels and general good vibes. I managed to bag myself a €10 sequin dress which I'm still on the fence about. On one hand it was a steal as it is fully-embellished and in top nick; on the other hand I could easily be mistaken as a wayward Dallas extra or ice-skating champion circa 1982. Katerina Witt perhaps? Check out the pics for a goo at the guna.

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: MAC LUSTRE LIPSTICK IN CLASSICAL (LE)

I was browsing through the lipstick box of the private sale in Mandarin Hotel. I was a bit disappointed because there weren't much left to choose from. The lipstick shades left were Hang- up, Spice it up!, "O", Retrofluid and Classical.

I was a it surprised with the color of Classical. It's in the lustre variant. It seemed something new to me so I thought of giving this lipstick a shot.

Not bad for 450php.

THE VERDICT:

Classical is baby pink- peach looking lipstick in the tube. i searched this lippy on the net and found out that this is a discontinued color, and is a Limited Edition item only. I wouldn't surprised if one of these days, it would come out as a repromote. It's a color that will really sell. I apologize for the flaky lips because my lips would shed every now and then. Maybe it's a sign that I should stop smoking or I should start trying to exfoliate my lips. :D

At first, I thought it was too sheer, and it appeared white on my lips so I thought I wasted money. When I got home, I used this for my FOTD. And surprisingly, it looked good! It's a perfect Wedding Lipstick (as described also in one of the beauty sites in the net). It's a clean- looking lipstick. At first, It seemed that it's making my teeth look more yellow than usual, because of the pastel shade. When I used it again, it came out as a lovely pink- peach nude lipstick (predominantly, it's baby pink-ish). My teeth color doesn't look too bad at all. Maybe the lipstick needed a good swiping to get the lovely color off the tube.

It's a lovely color, I must say. Perfect to pair with my MAC blush in Angel. And this is also perfect for those who would want to sport a pink- peach hued nude lippy.

It's a repromote to watch out for. :)
