Prepare for some major news folks. I Blog Fashion is STYLING the Joanne Hynes catwalk show at London Fashion Week this season!  The presentation entitled ‘Guerriers’ /‘Warriors’ is inspired by the West of Ireland (Joanne’s home turf), our own warrior queen Grainne Ni Mhuiel and features a unique capsule collaboration with artist Helen Steele.  This cannot-be-missed runway reveal will take place at 11.45am at the Freemason’s Hall, Covent Garden on Sunday, February 22nd.  Tickets can be requested in Ireland from SRMPR (sonia (at) srmpr (dot) ie) or UK and internationally from SNOW PR (vicki (at) snowpr (dot) com).

PS: To say I'm excited is an understatement.

The Silent Gallery

Shh!! Don't tell anyone but Irish designer Eilis Boyle has created an online pop-up shop in time for the Christmas shopping season. The Silent Gallery has ironically become the worst kept secret in fashion; in part due to my own loquacious nature. Anything this good can't be kept shtum. And by good I mean superlative cashmere scarves, bow clad arm warmers and shrugs that feel like a big cuddle on a Monday. Be sure to log on now and check out Eilis' virtual cabinet of curiosities. It's only open until December 10th so don't miss out.

Helen Steele

I had the pleasure of working on a recent shoot with artist/stylist/designer Helen Steele who kindly gifted me with this amazing cuff. I first became aquainted with her work at a Harvey Nichols fashion show which she produced based on a six day play of Austrian artist Herman Nitch. The chainsaw-wielding clowns and paint-strewn catwalk had me hooked. If you've got an eye for art, log on to her website for a peek at her Donnie Darko-inspired acrylic on perspex offerings. Accessory hawks be sure to pop in to Harvey Nichols from December 1st where Helen's cuffs will be selling for €150 with all proceeds going to Crumlin Children's Hospital.

Matt Doody Atelier Now Open

Matt Doody - Powerscourt Town Centre
Kerry’s crown jewel Matt Doody has opened his own atelier in Dublin’s Powerscourt Town Centre (www.mattdoody.com; 087 232 2382). The former Bow Boutique resident has only moved next door so he's easy to spot. Just look for his signature sumptuously draped dresses in the window. Exciting times to see so many Irish designers proliferating in Powerscourt. Well done Matt!

Maison Martin Margiela Dot Com

Fashion's most avant-garde design house - Maison Martin Margiela - launches the first MMM e-boutique on October 1st. As the 18th flagship store for the brand, the virtual space will parlay the Margiela ethos of no two spaces looking alike. Expect AW/11 collections for men and women played out in a post-modern space of photonegativity, processing codes and a retro MS-DOS font. (Note: I'm thinking the MMM design team are Douglas Coupland fans). Even more exciting is the limited edition of its ‘5 zips’ leather biker jacket reinterpreted in glassed indigo cotton denom for the first time since 1999. Only 100 are available for men and women and are available exclusively online at www.maisonmartinmargiela.com.

Margiela himself may have officiallyleft the building but it looks like the love for Belgian eccentricity is still very much open for business.

Oxfam Tee - Eilis Boyle

Last month I had the privilege of modelling for Eilis Boyle. Eilis was one of five Irish designers chosen to create a t-shirt for Oxfam on the subject of climate change. The tees will be sold exclusively in A|wear from Friday, October 1st with all proceeds going directly to the charity. Take a look below at the genesis from our D-light studio shoot to the final campaign shots. Don't foget to buy a tee and support Oxfam!

The Marylebone Hotel, London

You'd think I'd be done clacking on about London Fashion Week but a special thanks needs to be extended to The Marylebone Hotel. My boutique home away from home made running between shows and filing copy into the wee hours very easy indeed. This could have something (i.e. everything) to do with their stellar hospitality from a bottle of wine and fruit platter on arrival to nightly stealth drops of hot chocolate and shortbread; not to mention the velvet walls, Temple Spa aromatheraphy products, Jo Malone candles and built-in bathroom LCD TVs. Did I mention it's only 2 minutes from Oxford Street...with the feel of a bijou village. Oh, they're Irish too. Are you sold yet? Why not take a look at these pics (my iPhone drops weren't exactly Stephen Meisel quality) or log onto www.doylecollection.com for more deets.

Chris & Tibor iPad Cases

Granted I may not have an iPad...just yet; but that does not stop me from leaving saliva marks on my laptop screen. Just take a look at these slick-as-Rick iPad cases by Chris&Tibor. These limited ed leopard print patent leather beauties are bound to make you the envy of the envied. My bet says iPad buff Coco Rocha has one in every colour.

Falling into Autumn

To say I was 'off the mark' about this summer was, well, off the mark. I mistook former lazy days of the season as a continuum - ones that would extend into that of 2010 with trademark languidness. I booked a holiday, planned little and prepared to go with the flow. Little did I know that flow would spiral into a vortex of back-to-back photoshoots and general fashion frenzy. Hey, it's been a blast but gosh gee golly, I'm beat. With the snugly wools of autumn nestling back onto the shop shelves, here are a few things to look forward to:

Irish Examiner Weeeknd A/W 10 11 Trend Report
Out this Saturday, September 4th featuring the must-haves for the season. Photographer - Miki Barlok, Model and stylist - Annmarie O'Connor, Make-up - Kate O'Reilly, Hair - Suzanne Malone.

Brown Thomas Style Workshops
This Thursday, September 2nd pop into Brown Thomas from 5.30 pm for some late night shopping; and to see me talk through the latest trends of the season.

TK Maxx
I had the privilege of styling the TK Maxx media day last week and discovering Gold Label which launches Thursday, September 3rd. What is Gold Label? A merchandised rack front-and-centre of all the top catwalk designers - current season - from €129.99. Nice!

Redesign
You may have noticed a new look I Blog Fashion. I've been dragged kicking and screaming into a new Blogger redesign. I'm still playing around with it so some tweaks are in order but it's getting there.

Shhh!
I was honoured to play a part in a charity initiative with one of Ireland's foremost designers. Very honoured indeed. Details to-be-announced. Watch this space!!

Irish Tatler

Pick up the September issue of Irish Tatler today and check out Talking Point on page 16 where the lovely Kirstie McDermott I debate the ultimate purchase - fashion or beauty? Check out my column below:

It’s been six months; six months of delicious anticipation since previewing the autumn winter collections at London Fashion Week. Now that the first drop of leather, furs and knits have snuggled up onto the high street rails, the real fun begins. Jaunty English capes, Earhart-inspired aviator jackets, shearling-lined boots, far flung Aztec prints - each of these brings with it a sense of history and future possibilities. Who will I be today? What will happen when I wear this? And more importantly, how does it make me feel?

Let’s face it. There’s nothing quite so inebriating as the first encounter with a lust-have garment. It’s like trying out a new lover – exciting, filled with possibilities and when the price tag forbids, a touch naughty. As Vivienne Westwood once said, ‘fashion is eventually about being naked’; and rightly so. If a garment makes you feel like an HD-ready version of Gina Lollobrigida, it’s worth the shekels.

I for one exhibit a damn near visceral reaction to clothes. The stroke of velvet and language of brocade are all so seductively tangible, it’s difficult not to provide a soundtrack to the sensation. And nothing quite beats the heady buzz of scoring that Alexander Wang jacket – the victory march down Grafton Street and that smug smile which says ‘he’s with me!’

True, such longing can sometimes lead to heartbreak (finding out Jimmy Choos are obscenely narrow) and in some cases fatal attraction (refusing to take that Annoushka ring off my finger). But as most gals know, true love is more often the case. The thought of buying a new bag to replace my love-worn Vivienne Westwood bowler feels like emotional infidelity. As for my Chloe jacket; she was worth every penny over the years. In fact as a 10 year cost-per-wear ratio goes, I probably owe Stella McCartney and Phoebe Philo a few bob.

Still, even with such trusty lovers hanging dutifully in my closet, a little window shopping never did any harm. In fact, I’m sure Ms. Lollobrigida would approve.

Penneys:
Amazing beads from €3. Layer up for a bright tribal look.
Bikini sets from €5. Every shape, size and colour - and decent quality
Leather weave belts €4. Beat that!

River Island:

Love love love! Spoil yourself with some beach couture.

Bollywood-inspired gold thread cover-ups @ €33.50 - it's a skirt, it's a turban, it's a top - it's fabulous!

If It's Good Enough for Cleopatra...

My very wise stylist friend Claire once revealed a clever tip for removing fake tan. Milk. The lactic acid acts a natural exfoliant by helping lift dead cells; while the fat binds moisture, keeping the skin soft. Sounds like urban legend? Try it. Just add a litre into a very hot bath and soak for 20 minutes. Afterwards, use a washcloth to slough the skin and be staggered by the results. I've been using top drawer exfoliants in a bid to fade tan remanents without half the success of plain 'aul bainne. Apparently Cleopatra was onto a good thing.

Note: sounds silly but apparently this tip isn't the safest if you're lactose intolerant or have high blood pressure.

Heaven Hair & Beauty

D12 isn't just a hip hop group folks. It's also an up-and-coming postcode, not merely because it lays claim to resident Martin Foley (a.k.a. The Viper). It's new salon - Heaven Hair & Beauty - looks set to have punters boarding the 19a to sample some of their killer deals. Take their 3-week manicure which at €28, trumps the rather elevated €70 fee at one particular Dublin hair salon. What about their Vita Liberatea organic spray tan? The results are sweet - no biscuit smell, no questionable brown transfers on white clothing and at €30, it fades like a sweet summer romance. To cap it all off, they've got a banging deal on at the mo: €50 for a Brazilian, half leg, underarm and eyebrow wax.

Yummie Tummie Love

It was one of those bloated days. The one where the dreaded Ned appears without an invite. The house guest that doesn't know when to leave. Grrr... Timely enough, I happened to be attending the Yummie Tummie press day at Brown Thomas. I've been a fan of the brand since introduced to it last year by designer and founder Heather Thomson. Since last year, YT has added some gorgeous goodies from leggings to Gaga-style bustiers and a gorgeous lace and satin bodysuit. I'm still in massive lust with the tank tops which magically shave off inches of my middle (take that Ned!) without spooging my midriff into some sort of medieval shapwear harness. The fact the YTs can be worn as outwerwear also tips the hat to the underwear as outerwear trend and dare I say a lot easier to wear than a Gaultier conical bra. I'll be hitting up the concession again for some sexy separates to wear with my pencil skirt. I feel a Mad Men moment coming on! Thanks to Nicky Harris for the invite today. Always a pleasure!
